For Heloise McKee, Mintwood Home founder, the concept for the online home marketplace began with a passion for interiors and a desire to make designer fabrics more accessible. As a young professional, Heloise found it difficult to decorate her home on a budget and was frustrated with the process and cost of custom pillows. She wanted to simplify the process, bringing great design to people. In launching Mintwood Home, Heloise’s vision has been brought to life and has evolved to offer its clients a broad selection of products, from custom pillow services to the perfect accessories for your coffee table.

Her business partner, Caroline Lawler, with her own personal passion for all things creative, has been a crucial part of growing the brand through management of social media and marketing campaigns. Chatting with these two woman bosses, it is not surprising that Mintwood Home is making a name for itself in the design community and earning a faithful following from interior designers and homemakers alike wanting to create beautiful spaces.

I love that Mintwood Home not only offers great products but also is passionate about sharing their knowledge and expertise with others. Heloise and Caroline want to help educate people about design and have integrated this into their business model, providing customers with the right information and tools in order to make informed decisions when customizing pillows. They offer styling tips, must have products, market trends, and artist spotlights from their Art Shop on the Mintwood Home Blog, a great design resource. They like to remind people that design is personal and that one’s home should be a reflection of that person or family. Decorating should be fun, not stressful, and something people ought to take their time with and not rush. What started with a simple idea of creating custom pillows without the headaches has turned into an online design house redefining the traditional decorating process.

2016 Interior Design Trends

I asked Heloise and Caroline to share the top trends they are seeing this year in the market.

  • Rose Quartz: One of the Pantone colors of the year, Rose Quartz, is popping up everywhere, from home accessories to fabrics.
  • Oushak Rugs: Oushak rugs continue to be in high demand and an increasing trend.
  • Statement Gold: Gold is not a new trend, but continues this year as a bolder accent.
  • Florals and Prints: Design trends are in sync with the current fashion statements of mixing prints and using floral patterns.
