As a mother, trying to keep up with our two young boys (and all their energy!), I am always looking for brands that design with today's mom in mind. When I came across Sonnet James, a fashion company from California, who makes "play dresses for playful moms" I was intrigued. I loved the concept and was hooked after trying my first dress. I was also drawn to Whitney Lundeen, the founder of Sonnet James, though her own motherhood story shared through social media - images of a playful and loving mother to two precious boys. I couldn't wait to "meet" Whitney and learn more about her company.
Sonnet James' dresses are easy to wear, comfortable, flattering, and feminine. I love how the dress makes me feel effortlessly "put together". It makes me feel special and sometimes as a mama you need to feel that way. From pumpkin picking to brunch, this dress will transition perfectly for your busy lifestyle and allow you to freely enjoy the moments that matter.

We chatted briefly with Whitney, the founder of Sonnet James, to learn more about her inspiration and advice for other designers just getting their start.
Noteworthy: What inspired Sonnet James?
Whitney: A therapy appointment I had on my childhood. She asked me to do an art project and I came up with the idea of making a play dress that could have reminded my mom to play with me.
Noteworthy: How would you describe the "Sonnet James" woman?
Whitney: Playful, romantic, silly, authentic, and present
Noteworthy: One word that best describes you as a designer.
Noteworthy: Who are your style icons?
Whitney: Audrey Hepburn, Iris Apfel, Jane Birkin, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Grace Coddington
Noteworthy: What advice would you give to a young designer/entrepreneur looking to launch their own business?
Whitney: Never give up. Ask every favor possible from every person you know. It's going to be really hard, but you can do it. Make sure your new business has a new perspective, it needs to offer something the competitor doesn't.
