Sitting in the Twine and Twig studio with founders Elizabeth Stafford White and Jacquelyn Stafford Buckner, I quickly realize that the brand extends far beyond the jewelry for these sisters. It is a dynamic brand that embodies a rich family history, fond childhood memories, personal style, and a passion for beautiful earthy tones and materials. Their studio is a reflection of the elements found in the pieces that have earned them national accolades, a soft palette, rich textures, and rustic touches, uniquely melding together and inviting you into the Twine and Twig story.
Each piece is designed and handcrafted in the Charlotte-based studio. The jewelry’s aesthetic is undoubtedly influenced by the girls’ upbringing and exposure to nature during family trips to Sanibel Island, Florida, and the mountains where they fell in love with the Earth’s natural jewels at a young age and the outdoors became their playground. The brand was initially inspired by the sisters’ own desire for a unique beaded necklace worn on a strap that would be comfortable, versatile, and chic. The signature suede strap showcases a perfectly curated selection of globally sourced beads, repurposed materials, recycled glass, and bold statements of carved bone, tassels, or large shells. Each design, thoughtfully constructed by Elizabeth and Jacquelyn, creates collections of jewelry that connects one with places around the world and highlights the often understated beauty of organic materials.
This year’s Spring Collection, inspired by the cowrie shell, or the bottom slice of the shell, introduces soft tones to the brand’s traditional collections and incorporates the cowrie to create new pieces including a unique collar style and layers on the signature strap. The rounded, porcelain-like shells are stunning in their own right and are further elevated in the collection.
For me personally, I am drawn to the brand for its authenticity and connection to its founders’ own personal style. Elizabeth and Jacquelyn envision themselves wearing every piece they design. Creatively they stay fresh through finding new inspiration traveling and exploring new places. Their love for fashion and interiors has inspired new brand components with home and apparel collections, expanding their reach and ability to deliver the Twine and Twig lifestyle to its loyal followers.
